A BUSY Weymouth supermarket came to a standstill as people stopped to remember the victims of the September 11 attacks in America and the war dead.
Shoppers were invited to join in a short service and two-minute silence at Asda to mark Remembrance Sunday before South Dorset MP Jim Knight planted a flowering cherry tree in the car park as part of a national campaign by the supermarket group.
Mr Knight arrived from Portland, accompanied by an island Brownie troop, where he had been attending a service of remembrance at the war memorial at Portland Heights.
Mr Knight said it was important people stopped to remember, especially at a time when British troops were involved in the current conflict in Afghanistan.
He said: "It is important we remember the sacrifice people made for us for what we believe in, but we must also remember that people are not sent into conflict lightly."
