FAMILIES are being urged to join in a street party in Dorchester town centre to cap celebrations marking the Queen's Golden Jubilee.

Tables will be laid from the top to bottom of South Street for the bonanza from midday on Bank Holiday June 4 next year.

Town councillors hope to have bands, street entertainment, a bouncy castle and stalls but partygoers will have to bring their own food and drink.

The extravaganza - which has echoes of parties for the Silver Jubilee in 1977 and the marriage of Charles and Diana - will come at the end of a four-day Golden Jubilee festival in Dorchester.

Other events planned include a day-long art and craft street festival with stalls and entertainment on Saturday, June 1, and an open air church service at Maumbury Rings at 3pm on Sunday, June 2.
