A CORFE Mullen drug dealer was jailed for 12 months after pleading guilty to supplying cannabis.

Matthew Nash, 26, of Henbury Rise, also admitted possessing the drug and possessing cannabis with intent to supply.

Marcus Tregilgas-Davey told Bournemouth Crown Court that police had raided the ground-floor flat where Nash lodged.

Officers found 147.4 gms of herbal cannabis in a laundry basket and 4.7 gms of cannabis resin in a cereal bowl in the kitchen. They also recovered scales and plastic money bags, said the prosecutor.

During a search of Nash's girlfriend's home in Poole Road police found 516 gms of cannabis resin with a street value of £1,500.

Nash later admitted that the drugs recovered in both properties were his but maintained they were for his personal use.

"Clearly he wasn't telling the truth," said Mr Tregilgas-Davey.

"He admitted during interview that he had supplied cannabis," the prosector added.

Defending, Keith Kelleher said Nash was a diabetic who had used cannabis for many years.

"As a diabetic there is much he can't do in terms of the usual vices and cannabis has been his vice.

"He has made a stupid mistake and learned a hard lesson from it."

Jailing Nash for 12 months, Judge Mr Recorder Nicholas Murphy said: "Those who are involved in the supply of drugs are involved in degradation."

He added: "The seriousness of this offence is such that in my view only custody will do."
