MEMBERS of the public will be able to have their say on plans to reorganise a Bournemouth First and Junior school.

Parents and people from the local community will have the opportunity to consider two new options for the future for Kingsleigh First and Junior schools.

These are to create an all- through primary school for pupils aged from four to 11, or change the age of transfer from eight to seven and replace the First with an Infant school.

The change has been prompted by a need to invest in the buildings at Kingsleigh First School.

It falls under a borough policy which states where opportunities arise for a move away from First school provision the local education authority will consult through proposals to alter this either through "all-through primary" or on "infant and junior" school provision.

Under this policy two reorganisations have already taken place in the borough.

In March 2000 the DfEE approved a change for Stourfield First and Junior schools to become an Infant and Junior from September 2002. And in September last year the education committee approved a change for Summerbee First and Junior Schools to become an Infant and Junior from September 2003.

At a recent meeting of the education committee members gave officers the go-ahead to put these options out to consultation.
