A SPECTACULAR mural has been rediscovered at the former Lyme Regis Cottage Hospital.
It was painted more than 60 years ago by a grateful youth leader, Wyndham Payne, who was in charge of two boys taken ill while at camp in the area.
They were among the first patients in the children's ward, officially opened on May 28, 1937.
Featuring Winnie The Pooh characters, the mural covers all the walls and was touched up several years ago by the former Rector of Uplyme, the late Rev R L Seale.
It last saw the light of day during renovations to the buildings, now a nursing home, about 10 years ago.
New owners Stepping Stones rediscovered the mural behind wallpaper during an enhancement project.
"It was a delight to come across it," said deputy matron Sybil Nicklen. "The mural is in excellent condition and we intend to see that it is not lost for-ever.
"We shall cover it with a protective material before we re-paper the room."
