A TAXI driver claims he was assaulted by a passenger following an argument over a fare.
Police are investigating reports that a man who was with a group of people travelling from Weymouth to Portland attacked the private hire driver late on Saturday night.
The driver said he picked up a group of people from a restaurant in Weymouth and took them to addresses on the island.
He said the incident happened when he made the last drop-off in Chiswell and a male passenger lashed out following an argument over the fare. The driver was left shaken after the attack.
Thieves broke into an elderly woman's home in Meadow View, Charminster, near Dorchester, while she was inside yesterday afternoon.
The raiders took cash, a pension book and Post Office books from the house.
The break-in happened between 5pm and 6.45pm while the woman was watching television.
