Portland renew old acquaintances with former Dorset Combination League rivals Gillingham Town in their Dorset Senior Cup tie at Grove Corner tonight, kick-off 7.45pm.
Two seasons ago the sides fought out an epic Combination Cup final at Swanage with the Blues finally winning 4-3 in extra-time and although they have moved a step up the non-league ladder since then manager Nick Preston knows tonight's game is anything but a foregone conclusion.
"It's a bit of a potential banana skin for us really," said Preston. "Gillingham have always given us a tough game and it won't be any different just because we have progressed to a higher league.
"Having said that we are in something of a purple patch and we should be confident after two great results at home against two of the best sides in the Jewson Wessex League in Brockenhurst and Andover.
"We will start as favourites tonight which puts added pressure on us, but if we go out with the right attitude and everyone is up for it like they were the last two games we should go through."
Portland, who beat a resurgent Poole Town in the last round, have defender Scott Dennis and striker Mark Fitch available again after missing Saturday's impressive
1-1 draw at home to Jewson Wessex League title favourites Andover.
"But they will both have to start on the subs bench because there is no way we can justify leaving out anyone who played against Andover," said Preston who is keen to see his men matched against either Dorchester or Weymouth at some stage of the competition.
Portland: Myers, Wallis, Perkins, Kenway, Whyton, Turrell, Whalley, Evans, Skelton, Reeve, Carter. Subs Greeno, Dennis, Fitch.
