MORE than 100 young people from the Scouting movement got over their stage fright to perform in a traditional-style slapstick show at the Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne.

The performers were all Cubs, Scouts, Beavers and Venture Scouts from the 2nd Corfe Mullen Scout Group who performed a show titled Corfe Capers before a sell-out crowd.

Acts included boys doing the can-can, an Edwardian-style strongman comedy act, Beavers doing Bob the Builder and plenty of singing and dancing.

They had just a few hours of rehearsal time, before the main performance, to bring the show together but it was a case of being alright on the night.

Group scout leader Peter French said: "Up until a few years ago, putting on a show like this used to be a regular thing but not so much now, or if it's done, it is a district-wide event. It is unusual for just one Scout group to do it.

"We think it does the kids good every few years to get them on a proper stage in front of 480 parents. They all enjoyed being on stage - some weren't so good with the waiting off-stage.

"It also means they are putting something back into the community and enjoying themselves at the same time."

During the show's interval, Venture Scout Chris Pearce was presented with his Queen's Scout Award - the highest achievement for a Scout to achieve.
