A BRACE of hilarious plays are coming to Weymouth Arts Centre tomorrow night to help boost the venue's drive to become a leading centre for community arts and activities.
Veteran performer David Conville, perhaps best known as the curmudgeonly star of TV's Surgical Spirit, has written and directed the plays, Obituaries and GSOH!, which take a rather cynical look at life, death and romance.
He will be sharing the stage with Damien Thomas - who has appeared in many TV productions including Tenko and The Six Wives of Henry VIII - and local actress Jane McKell.
Obituaries is set in an old folks' home where two residents fill their days by dreaming up their own rather inflated death notices. All is chummily cosy until a Royal visit sparks off petty rivalries and jealousies which lead to tragedy.
GSOH! examines the world of lonely hearts adverts, in particular the machinations of two people who are looking for love through the classifieds, only to discover that the sexual thrill of the paper chase outweighs the actual achievement of true love.
Tickets cost £6, for which WAC members receive a free glass of wine supplied by Asda - non-members can buy a drink for £1.
For further details of Obituaries and GSOH!, which starts at 7.30pm, call the centre in Commercial Road on (01305) 786220.
