WEYMOUTH Sports will be without their Dorset Senior Cup hero when they return to Combination League action against Bridport Reserves at Redlands tomorrow, kick-off 2.15pm.

On-loan keeper Gavin Bates, who turned in a superb display against Weymouth on Tuesday night, has been recalled for the Terras FA Trophy trip to Chesham United.

"A game against the club who hold his registration provided Gavin with the perfect opportunity to shine," said Sports boss Adie Chance, "and he certainly took full advantage of the situation.

"His performance on Tuesday night was absolutely fantastic and he thoroughly deserves his recall to Weymouth's first team squad."

He added: "From a selfish point of view I'd obviously rather have him available for me tomorrow, but the good news is that Steve Wills is a available again and so he'll make an idea replacement."

Chance said he was proud of all his players in midweek and is now looking for them to continue the good work in the bread and butter environment of the league.

"I was always confident that we could give a good account ourselves," he said, "and to be honest we were all a little disappointed to have gone down by five goals to nil. But what we did do is set our standards for the rest of the season and if we play like that every week then we'll have no problems whatsoever.

"There are some very good players at this club and hopefully their confidence will have been given a big boost by their showing at the Wessex Stadium and I really feel that Bridport at home is the sort of game we should be winning."

Midfield man Martin Patterson misses the match because of personal commitments, but Alan Conroy returns to the squad after missing Tuesday's defeat.
