ANYONE FOR TENNIS? Youngsters get into the swing of things on court, courtesy of West Hants Tennis Club
BOURNEMOUTH served up in style its first summer event in the town centre with a mini tennis court and expert coaching.
And with a schedule of entertainment that other towns would be hard pushed to match the town looks set to become a hive of activity over the coming months with tennis, fashion shows and regular street performers.
Every Saturday throughout the summer the Town Centre Events team will present 'Sign up for the Summer', providing a range of entertainment for children and adults.
The fun began on Saturday when West Hants Tennis Club set up a tennis court in the Square and offered free professional coaching for children.
Peter Elviss, chief executive of the West Hants club, said: "The day was fantastic. We expected around 300 people to take part on the first Saturday and it was certainly very busy.
"Anybody who wants to have a go at tennis can come along on a Saturday in May and have a go in the Square for free."
Phil Hoyle, of Event Management Funnybone, said: "We're expecting some of the street performers from Covent Garden to come along every Saturday and the 2CRFM Black Thunder crew will feature in activities in the Square throughout the summer."
The entertainment will include special performances from Wiz Odd, courtesy of Child ID Ltd, and Clown Juggins, Children's entertainer of the year 2000.
In June the Per Una range at Marks and Spencer's, Debenhams, Envy and Just Add Water will feature in fashion shows in the Square and throughout the summer there'll be arts and crafts, face- painting and children's entertainment.
In August restaurants and bars will be showing off their finest cuisine in 'Taste of the Town'.
There is still time for local businesses to get involved in the action. For more information on town centre events contact Phil Hoyle at Funnybone on 01202 622722.
