KIND-HEARTED young people held a fun day and raised enough cash to send a poverty-stricken African child to school for a year.
The Tides Youth Project, based in Newstead Road, Weymouth, raised proceeds of more than £160 to pay for the school fees of Awa, a four-year-old girl from Gambia.
Tides worker Michelle Manvell said: "The fun day was really successful and we raised a total of £163. We had all sorts of stalls selling cakes, books, toys, second-hand clothes, a tombola, competitions and food, like cream teas and sandwiches."
Group co-ordinator, Julie Walsh, said: "I went over to Africa in January and visited Awa, who is shortly going to leave the nursery and will now be able to attend primary school.
"Our young people are really moved by her plight and have now decided to raise an extra £100 to send her to school for another year."
