DORSET Countryside Volunteers (DCV) are looking for enthusiasts to help with conservation work along the coast path at Fleet in Wyke Regis.
On Saturday, and Sunday, May 11 and 12, at the request of the Dorset Heritage Coast team, the group will be clearing the path of decaying straw bales and other debris which threatens to pollute the fragile waters of the Fleet.
When this is done, the volunteers will erect a new fence along the coast path with kissing gates to allow for disabled access, and then hope to put in finger signposts to direct visitors.
Brian Thompson publicity officer for DCV said: "Now the Dorset coast has world status it is very important that the footpaths are maintained and pollution of the Fleet is avoided."
DCV, which celebrates its 30th birthday the same weekend, will be joined by 13 members of the French conservation group, Association Orchis, from St Vaast La Hogue at lunchtime on Saturday.
Volunteers should meet at the end of Camp Road at 10am on both days.
No special skills are needed, as newcomers will work alongside experienced volunteers.
Drinks and biscuits are provided but you will need to bring lunch.
Old clothes and stout shoes are a must, as are a waterproof and stout gloves to protect the hands.
The following week, the group will be working on footpaths at Cerne Abbas, meeting at Kettle Bridge car park and picnic site at 10am on both days.
Phone Brian on (01305) 889728 for more details.
