Concerts to suit all musical tastes this week.

Charismatic jazz guitarist Pat Metheny brings his legendary fusion band back to Poole Arts Centre on May 10. With a new album, Metheny will be accompanied by long-time musical partner Lyle Nays and regular bassist Steve Rodby.

He is also joined by drummer Antonia Sanchez and singer/percussionist Richard Bona and trumpet player Cuong.

The Western Association of Ballet Schools - which features young dancers from all over the Dorset area - presents an afternoon of music and dance at the Layard Theatre at Canford School, near Wimborne, on May 12.

The association, whose patron is the famous ballet star Wayne Sleep, is made up of ballet schools from across the region.

Former Steeleye Span/Silly Sisters singer Maddy Prior arrives at The Pavilion Theatre, Weymouth, as part of the town's folk festival on on May 12 with her latest all-female acoustic trio.

Simply known as Maddy Prior and The Girls, it features her alongside her 17-year-old daughter Rose Kemp and Abbie Lathe on vocals, guitar, keyboards and whistle.

Other Weymouth Folk Festival acts appearing over the weekend include both Bob and John Kirkpatrick and The Yetties.

Art Asia brings singer Jayita Pandey to the Turner Sims Concert Hall, Southampton, on May 11 as part of her UK tour. Performing from a wide repertoire of folk, classical and modern songs, she will be singing in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and Bengali. During the afternoon of the concert Jayita will also be leading a demonstration and workshop.

People with all levels of experience are welcome to come along and learn about the music.
