THE Dorset Development XI began their season with a five-wicket victory over Bournemouth University at Dean Park and included five under-18s in the side which adapted itself well to give much encouragement for the future.
The University won the toss and soon found themselves in serious trouble against the opening attack of James Tizzard (2-18) and Harry Rowland (3-37).
Spinners Courtney Savage and Andy Booth both bowled steadily and each completed their overs for fewer than 30 runs.
The University innings was revived by Charlie Sparks, Tom Heywood and Alistair Day-Stewart before they were dismissed for 158 with James Elliot-Square taking 2-27.
Dorset's openers James Matcham (30) and Ian Sibley (43) put on 61 in 12 overs before four wickets fell for 17 runs.
Sibley and Andy Booth (33 no) added 68 and set up a comfortable victory with Tom Heywood (2-18) the pick of the University bowlers.
