A PAID 17-point master class from Gary Havelock and an inspired performance by guest Toni Svab helped Poole pocket their first away league win of the season last night.

The depleted Meridian Lifts Pirates ignored the loss of World champion Tony Rickard-sson, Hans Andersen and Bjarne Pedersen to lead from start to finish in a 49-41 victory.

They were always in charge, twice leading by 12 points, but back-to-back maximums in heats 11 and 12 are what really earned this success on their travels.

Ex-Panther Magnus Zetterstrom showed what he is capable of around the Showground by leading home Havelock in a first heat 5-1 procession, but Chris Harris won the second as Peterborough got back a 4-2.

Guest Svab zoomed away with the shared third heat before Havelock recorded back-to-back victories in heats four and five.

It was another 4-2 in favour of Poole in heat six as Svab picked up his second win.

He didn't have to wait long for his third as it arrived as part of a 5-1 in the seventh race.

Panthers' tactical substitute Bo Brhel followed Shane Parker home for a heat eight re-run maximum.

Mariusz Staszewski had brought the first race to a stop after going careering into the fence on lap two, but the Pole walked away unhurt.

Tesar took heat nine for Panthers in a 4-2 and Parker became the first man to conquer Svab in heat 10 (another Panthers 4-2), but that was nothing compared to the drama the next heat brought.

Two separate spills brought a stoppage as Harris lost control of his somersaulting bike on the first lap and Panthers guest Travis MacGowan clipped the back wheel of Zetterstrom as the other riders shut off.

Havelock led Zetterstrom home for the first of two 5-1s that knocked the stuffing out of Peterborough. Svab was followed in by Staszewski in the next race as Poole opened out a commanding 12-point lead.

Havelock had to bow to Parker in heat 13, but a 3-3 was no disaster for Poole as it sealed them the league points.

Parker made it four heat wins for him in the penultimate race, but by then Panthers were riding only for pride. Havelock signed off by taking heat 15 on a good night for Pirates, who climbed to sixth in the table.
