POOLE Borough became the first team for six years to secure the double as they added the League Cup to their Dorset League Division One title following a thrilling 3-2 win against Chickerell at Cuthbury.
Borough had a dream start as Alan Fooks put them into the lead inside 10 minutes after he latched on to a through ball and rode a tackle before slotting home.
Chickerell equalised as Borough were unable to clear the ball out of defence and Andy Hall arrived at the edge of the area to blast home.
Borough were back in front within three minutes after Scott Smith collected a low cross in the area from Alan Fooks before making space to squeeze a shot just inside the near post.
Chickerell looked more lively in the second half and the Borough defence looked under pressure as they conceded a number of free-kicks around the edge of the area.
However, against the run of play, Borough got the third and decisive goal when Herrington centred from the left and Gary Fooks was on hand to head the ball in.
There was still time for Chickerell to mount a comeback and after Matt Dench latched on to a long throw to force the ball over the line with two minutes remaining, Borough had to endure some nervous moments before seeing their side lift the trophy for the second time in three years.
Poole Borough: Burton, Edwards, Herrington (Symes, 83), Wall, Simpson (Shanley, 50), Hebdon, Clarke (Coles, 70), Bircumshaw, Smith, Alan Fooks, Gary Fooks.
