A "SERIAL offender and scourge of a community" has been jailed for four months after admitting a catalogue of crime.

Father-of-two Darren Amor, aged 28, pleaded guilty to using threatening words and behaviour and smashing a pane of glass following a disturbance at a house at Nursery Road, Blandford on March 27.

The town's magistrates heard he swore abuse at neighbours in front of children, with one woman fearful he was going to attack her.

Amor, of Schellin Way, Shillingstone, further admitted riding a moped while drunk, using the moped while banned, having no insurance or MOT and theft of vodka.

Prosecuting, Patrick Matthews told the court Amor was spotted stealing a bottle of Vodka from the town's Tesco supermarket on May 4.

He left the store and got onto a moped and was followed by police towards Birch Avenue.

Amor was arrested shortly afterwards and officers noticed his breath smelt of alcohol.

A breath test showed he had 69 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit being 35 micrgorammes.

The court heard Amor was in breach of two conditional discharges imposed last month.

Mr Matthews added: "He is a serial offender and a scourge of the Blandford community."

Defending, Ian Daly said his client was an alcoholic and virtually all his offending was drink related.

"That is his downfall but Darren Amor now accepts that unless he addresses the problem, there is nothing that anyone else can do."

He said Amor had attended a CADAS appointment which he enjoyed and was on "a very, very long road to recovery."

He would continue to address his problem while in custody, he said.

"Perhaps the outlook, while difficult, is not altogether bleak. He has a purpose to work towards," he added.
