NO MAN'S LAND (15)

Fresh from its triumph at this year's Oscars, where it collected the trophy for Best Foreign Language Film, No Man's Land invades selected cinemas across the country.

Writer-director Danis Tanovic uses black humour to illuminate the political conflict within his country - the former Yugoslavia.

Croatian soldier Ciki (Branko Djuric) and Serbian fighter Nino (Rene Bitorajac) are trapped together in a trench between enemy lines. If either man attempts to leave the hiding place, they will be shot by enemy troops.

Yet the two men cannot stay, since they will be blown to smithereens by a mine lodged beneath the body of unconscious comrade Cera (Filip Sovagovic).

Despite their obvious distrust for one another, Ciki and Nino are forced to work together to find a way out of the dilemma.

Simon Callow is Col Soft, from UN High Command in Zagreb, who is called in to try to intercede.
