FITNESS can be fun is the message at Weymouth's Holy Trinity Infants School, where children have been taking part in a new after school fitness club.
The club, for six and seven year olds, meets every Tuesday and Thursday for an hour at the school in Cross Road.
More than 40 children are taking part, including eight girls, in football-themed ball skills and games devised for them by their two Budmouth School student coaches Andy Bell and George Leighton.
This is the first term that the school has been running the scheme as part of their efforts to promote fitness and good health.
Headteacher Lyn Darley explained that the school encouraged children to be active: "We targeted young children as many of them don't get much opportunity to be active outside school and don't have the opportunities we used to have to play on the streets."
She added: "They love it. They're very keen and it's very good for some of those children who get quite boisterous during the day."
The children were also enthusiastic. Seven-year-old Keiron Gair said: "It's really good and I love doing the match at the end of the day."
