POOLE-BASED Hamworthy KSE has secured further contracts to supply equipment for four new Royal Navy landing ships.
Last month Hamwor-thy KSE delivered sewage treatment plants to the Swan Hunter yard for the first of two landing ships being built there - RFA Lyme Bay and RFA Largs Bay.
Now further orders have been received for sewage treatment plant for the next two vessels in the series, RFA Mounts Bay and RFA Cardigan Bay.
These two will be constructed by BAe Systems (Govan) and are scheduled to be in service by 2005.
All four new Bay Class landing ships displace up to 16,000 tonnes.
They are being built under the Alternative Landing Ships Logistic (ALSL) project to replace the Sir Lancelot class ships.
ALSL is part of a package designed to significantly improve the ability of the UK's Armed Forces to deploy quickly around the globe.
Hamworthy KSE has also received a £320,000 order for pumping systems for all four vessels, covering the full spectrum of engine room duties.
"Delivery of the first pumps is scheduled to commence in Septem-ber 2002," said a spokesman for the Fleetsbridge firm.
The purchase of equipment for the project is fully compliant with the Smart Pro-curement Initiative, with preference given to COTS (commercial off the shelf) equipment.
"Extensive experience of supply and logistics support in the military sector helped Hamworthy KSE to win the sewage treatment and pump contracts," added the spokesman.
