BOURNEMOUTH began the day one place off the foot of Section One - and ended it holding a top-five spot after a convincing first win of the season.

They rattled up a full house (98-65) at Boscombe Cliff A who are now marooned at the foot of the table. Mike Newton, Ron Jeffery, Mike Pettis and Terry Chivers (29-16) proved to be Bournemouth's inspiration.

Bournemouth's rapid rise was matched by Wimborne. The Minster men were propping up the table until opening their win account with a 12-2 (80-68) pasting of Argyll.

Ray Steele, Ian Napleton, Bob Tappin and Mark Tomberry (25-15) put Wimborne in the box seat with Russell McKie, Bryan Morgan, Norman Dalgarno and Norman England (20-14) leading the Argyll response.

Spearheaded by Paul Tidby, Trevor Broad, Scott Golding and dad Tony Golding (29-16) Branksome Park bossed the clash of the leaders 12-2 (90-75) against West Moors Memorial whose saving grace was the rink of Cyril Martin, John Simmons, Ray Brinsden and Peter Langford (25-14).

Alan Geary returned to his old club in triumph as Boscombe Cliff trimmed Ringwood 10-4 (75-67). He teamed up with Michael Hutley, Colin Garment and Chris Martin (17-9) to take the Cliff honours while Richard Lawrence, John Crout, Graham Harkness and Alec Wells (20-17) kept Ringwood in the hunt.

Poole Park crashed 12-2 (87-72) in their local derby at Alexandra Park where Alan Trevett, John Hamilton, Gary Pick and Paul King (27-17) starred for the hosts. Derek Addis, Ron Dugdale, Maurice Foord and Barry Higgins (23-20) spared Poole's blushes.

Alan Elkin, Keith Aldridge, Dean Hopkins and Dennis Simpson (29-12) guaranteed Southbourne kept their unbeaten analysis 10-4 (86-65) against Braeside who lost theirs in the confrontation of the Section Two leaders.

Phil How, Brian Wrightson, Barrie Horne and Terry Cox (22-16) were Braeside's best.

New Milton struck peak form to whitewash Electric 80-60 with Frank Maunder, Roy Nicoll, Mike Cox and Bill Wallace (23-11) their leading lights.

Despite dropping a seven on the second end and trailing 12-2 after four, Tom Warrick, Barry Short, Jim Frampton and Mike Harley staged a remarkable recovery to finish 31-16 up and inspire Iford Bridge to their 12-2 (85-73) victory against Kings Park.

John Challis, Alan Thompson, Frank McCafferty and Ian Davies (29-15) gave the table-proppers something to cheer about.

Trevor Smyth, Trevor Hayman, John Hall and outstanding skip Mike Abraham (34-9) proved the difference as Wessex handed Knyveton Gardens their first defeat 10-4 (85-72).

Steve Hack, Dave Swindells, Tony Davis and Gary Hawes (24-14) kept Gardens in the hunt.

Malcolm Adamson, Richard Lewis, John Taylor and Mike James (27-15) guided Branksome Park A to a first victory 11-3 (82-68) at Christchurch whose lone winners were Tom Fisher, Roy Smewing, John Bishop and Alan Shepherd (20-18).

Pelhams remain the only unbeaten side in Section Four on a day when all five matches were home wins.

In a clash of two 100 percenters they outgunned Wessex A 10-4 (80-66) with Dennis Harding, Dan Staples, Phil Jeans and Jim Flexman (20-9 against George Evans) showing the way. Bob Sibley, John Mumford, Clive Smith and Peter Edwards (20-15 against Barry Rankine) were the Wessex aces.

Pelhams go top after previous leaders New Milton A surrendered their undefeated tag 12-2 (79-66) at Highcliffe where John Bowyer, Chris Prigg, Graham Brown and Derek Tucker (22-10) took the spotlight. Mike McLauchlan, Reg Thorpe, Don Shields and Don Smith (23-17) collected the New Milton consolation.

At the other end of the table the three bottom teams all chalked up first victories.

Despite recording the division's biggest shots win of the day (90-55) Electric A are still last, Alan Trickett, Ron Beedie, Don Whitlock and Ron White (30-6) stealing the show in their 12-pointer against Southbourne A whose saving grace came from Ralph West, Sonny Brown, John Wilkinson and Forrest Thomson (20-13).

Richmond Park A got off the mark 12-2 (84-80) helped by the 28-16 verdict of Ken Hunt, Bruce Brewer, Ken Groves and Howard Smith (28-16) against Swanmore who had the best rink result of the match thanks to Tony Warren, Ron Prigg, Fred Brown and George Smith (33-10).

John Green, Peter Suttling, Alf Wilcox and Alan Watts (27-11) gave Braeside A that winning feeling as they tamed Wimborne A 12-2 (94-66), Doug Cheney, Ron Dinmore, Dave Middlewick and John Welch (22-17) the Minster men's class act.

Alf Morris, John Ashley, Tom Lamont and Stan Ridgewick (29-8) had a field day as Christchurch A extended their lead at the head of Section Seven 10-4 (77-65) at Argyll B.

Cyril Longman, Alan Reeves, Geoff Budd and Richard Smith (22-16) propped up Argyll.

Skip Ian Munch had an excellent debut alongside Alan Primett, John Jefferies and Ted Burkin to steer Southbourne C towards their 10-4 (77-64) success at Poole Park C.

Munch's rink won 26-10 and Southbourne would have had two more points but for the last-end seven that gave Poole's Roger Welch, Gordon McGrail, Karl Ganglberger and Max Pemberton a shock 20-16 victory.

A 33-7 cracker by Bill Woodward, Jerry Ashton, David Conibear and John Howitt provided the platform for Swanage A's 10-4 (85-68) eclipse of New Milton C, the visitors' top rink being John Drake, Lionel Davey, Ron Benson and Ron Mogford (22-9).

Although only three shots separated them (77-74) Richmond Park B pocketed 10 points against Knyveton Gardens A.

Bill Pearson, Keith Curtis, Eric Stephens and Les Deadman (26-12) sparkled for Richmond Park with Knyveton's Jack Fuller, Ray Munt, Don Priddle and Mervyn Courtney (25-11) just as effective.
