A SATURDAY Sports Club in Weymouth has launched its 15th year with a full programme of games coaching for youngsters between five and 12-years-old.
Athletics, basketball, mini-cricket, football, hockey, mini-rugby, rounders and mini-tennis are all among the activities on the agenda at the Westhaven Junior School for boys and girls.
It's all under the careful supervision of experienced teachers and coaches from the Weymouth tennis, hockey, and rugby clubs and the main sponsor is again Weymouth College.
Sports Club organiser Don J Whistance began the event in 1987 because he found in the summer term there were fewer organised activities in the way of sport and leisure for school children.
"We introduce the children to a variety of sports, some of which they may not have experienced before, which will encourage them to develop as a more complete sportsperson and hopefully they will go looking for the club of their choice in the community," he explained.
The club will operate every Saturday from 1pm to 4pm at the school in Radipole Lane until early July. If the weather is bad it will switch to the Sunday.
