JUBILEE celebrations with "something for everyone" are being promised by organisers at Lyme Regis.
Town councillors Barbara Austin and Lorna Jenkin have just announced the line up of activities - and the emphasis is on taking part, with events stretching over the entire Jubilee weekend and Bank Holiday.
The special programme starts on Thursday, May 30, when the Royal British Legion stages a Bingo night at the Woodmead Hall, starting at 8 pm. Saturday, June 1, from noon until late there is the allday party and barbecue at the Lyme Regis Football Club ground in Charmouth Road.
Sunday, June 2, sees a day of varied events: at 9.45am there will be the Civic Parade from Langmoor Gardens to the Church, before the special Jubilee Service at 10am. Many groups will take part in the parade, and members of the public are welcome to join in. At 11.30am at Church Cliff the Rotary Club is organising the "Tennis Ball Olympics".
At 2.30 pm Richard Fox will be conducting an historical tour, starting at the Guildhall steps The sea front and the Lister Gardens provide the venue for the otheractivities on Sunday. At 3 pm in the Lister Gardens there will be a display by Lyme's renowned Majorettes.
From mid afternoon to 8 pm young buskers can display their skills at the Shelters on Marine Parade a power point and a microphone will be provided.
And at 8 pm Lyme's well known master of song, Tony Langford, will lead an Olde Tyme SingaLong in the gardens. Sunday's events will end with the torchlight procession and fireworks organised by the Regatta and Carnival Committee, and the lighting of the Jubilee Beacon.
The Torchlight Procession will start at 9.30pm from the gates of Langmoor Gardens, and make its way down Broad Street and along Marine Parade to the Cobb. Torches will be on sale at the Garden Gates from 9.15 pm.
The fireworks will start at 10.15 pm from the end of the Harbour North Wall. Afterwards the Jubilee Beacon will be lit by the Mayor and Mayoress. On Monday, June 3, the day begins with a coffee morning at the Bowling Club on Monmouth Beach (10am to noon) and 10.30am sees the start of a series of children's beach races by the Bay Hotel, followed by a Tug O'War organised by the RNLI. Lyme's Town Crier, Phil Street will make the Royal Proclamation from the steps of the Guildhall at noon, and at 2 pm, by the Shelters on Marine Parade, there will be a pavement art competition.
Finally, on Tuesday, June 4 the focus of activities for the kids moves to Theatre Square, at 3pm for 4 pm, for the Children's tea party, with Punch And Judy, music and fun. Prizes will be awarded for the most 'patriotic' teddy bear dressed in red, white and blue.
Throughout the celebrations there will be a number of children's decorated 'Wishing Trees' around town, and the site of the traditional carnival mural on Marine Parade is being taken over temporarily by the art students of Woodroffe School for a Jubilee Mural.
