CALLING all Cherries fans - do you fancy following in Jermain Defoe's footsteps by taking his place in their official squad for next season? Well, now's your chance.

The Daily Echo and AFC Bournemouth have joined forces to offer our readers a unique chance to become a member of Cherries squad for the 2002-2003 campaign.

What's more, the lucky reader will be given the number 27 team shirt, as worn so dynamically by Defoe two campaigns ago.

That's right. You've got an unbelievable one-off opportunity to become a part of Sean O'Driscoll's squad.

All you have to do to have the chance to win that prize is collect five special vouchers we will be printing in the Daily Echo every day between now and Friday, June 14.

Then you must send your vouchers to the Daily Echo at the address on the entry form printed on page 53 and wait and see if you are the lucky winner drawn out of a hat by a newspaper staff member.

Entry forms will be printed in the Daily Echo on a regularly basis between now and June 14.

The winner will be announced in the Daily Echo between Saturday, June 22, and Saturday, June 29, the week of the World Cup semi-finals and final.

As well as being given Defoe's number 27 squad number, the winner will also:

* appear in an AFC Bournemouth official 2002-2003 team photograph and be presented with a signed copy of that photograph with autographs of all the management and players.

* be supplied with your own home strip with your name and the number 27 on it.

* be supplied with a training tracksuit with the number 27 and your initials on it, just like the other professionals.

* feature in Cherries' official match day programme as a player sponsored by the Daily Echo.

* sign replica Football League forms that will eventually be framed and presented to you as a keepsake.

The winner will be a Daily Echo reader - man, woman or child - of any age.

If they don't want to accept the prize, they can nominate a family member or friend to become the AFC Bournemouth player in their place.

The envelope containing your entry form and Daily Echo vouchers must be Post Office stamped Monday, June 17, or earlier to be eligible for our competition.

Cherries manager O'Driscoll said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for a local supporter to be involved in a very personal way with their local team.

"As a community club it is perhaps only natural we have a member of the community as part of the squad."

So that's it. Start collecting your vouchers now and you might end up being the next Jermain Defoe.
