THE children of two Poole schools turned back the clock in a period fashion parade as part of the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Some 350 pupils and teachers of Turlin Moor First and Middle Schools paraded through the streets of Hamworthy, dressed to represent milestones during the last 50 years. There were spacemen, queens, princesses, hippies and pop stars and all the costumes were made by the children.
After parading through the Turlin Moor estate, the children, teachers and parents returned to the school for a fete, which made £420 profit for the PTA.
"All the money will be ploughed into helping the school," said Chris Hurlock, chairman of the Friends of Turlin Moor Community Schools.
"The children spent weeks making their own costumes and flags and we were all very proud of them.
"Unfortunately we had to limit the number of stalls because the wind was playing havoc, but at least the rain stayed away and everyone enjoyed themselves.
"There are quite a lot of elderly people on the estate and they lined the route to applaud the children.
"I must also mention the police, who were fantastic. They closed a number of roads for a short time and enabled it to run smoothly and safely."
