PARLEY 231-5 (19pts) beat Dorchester 143-9 (4pts) by 88 runs

DO DORCHESTER'S bowlers not like Carl Brissett.

Having smashed a glorious century against the county town at the Rec last season, Parley's West Indian all-rounder was up to his usual tricks when the two sides met at Dean Park on Saturday.

This time the big-hitting opener helped himself to a quick-fire 80 as the hosts set their opponents a formidable 232 runs for victory.

And despite another superb opening stand between Ian Sibley (28) and Sean Walbridge (53), the visitors fell a massive 88 runs short of their target.

Having won the toss and elected to field, Dorchester's frontline bowlers failed to get that vital early breakthrough with Brissett and Gavin Oldbury (20) putting on 63 for the opening wicket.

And when Odbury even-

tually departed after edging a catch to wicketkeeper Paul Bassindale off leg spinner Matt Chalmers, Mark Chutworth picked up the gauntlet in fine style, remaining unbeaten at the end on 78.

A couple of smart run-outs accounted for Brissett and Will Murray (0), while new Minor Counties signing Andy Coleman got in on the act with a couple of late wickets, including the dangerous Keith Clarke (36).

Coleman's Dorset team mate Walbridge was again the model of consistency conceding just 28 runs from his 10 overs of slow left arm off spin, but Pete Tucker proved very expensive with 74 runs coming from his spell of

gentle medium pacers.

Dorchester needed a good start to their innings and that's just what Sibley and Walbridge gave them. The in-form pair clocked up 86 runs in 23 overs before Walbridge was caught off the bowling of Richard Lynn for an excellent 53.

However, the visitors were unable to capitalise on that effort with four wickets falling for just 10 runs in a six-over spell which left them reeling at 96-5.

Pete Diffey (21) and Simon Joslin (6) added 29 for the sixth wicket, but the writing was already on the wall by then and it was only a matter of time before Parley claimed victory.

A heavy burst of rain cut Dorchester's reply short by five overs, with the county town picking up just four points as their chase ended on 143-9.

Vice-skipper Walbridge said: "Carl Brissett again proved the key batsman for Parley, sharing in partnerships of 80 and 73 for the first two wickets. On the bright side, there were a couple of really good run-outs and Andy Coleman bowled well on his debut.

"We got off to a good start in reply with Ian Sibley and myself putting on 86 for the first wicket, but those four quick wickets in the middle order proved decisive and there was to be no way back from there."
