ENGLAND captain David Beckham has proved he is a cut above the rest as Bournemouth hairstylists struggle to cope with demand for his mohican-style snip.

While the country is gripped by World Cup fever, copycat football fans are flocking to have their locks shorn in time for the long-awaited kick-off on May 31.

During recent weeks Tracie Philp, manageress at Ice Hair Design in Charminster, has been inundated with requests for Beck's distinctive style.

"Since Beckham had his hair cut, lots of men have come into the salon saying they want to have the same cut.

"I've seen women with the style but, so far, I haven't had any female customers wanting the cut."

Tracie added: "It doesn't suit everyone. To wear the style you need to have good looks and the right shape of face."

One of Tracie's satisfied customers is trainee investment banker Nick Fletcher.

Keen football fan Nick, 18, who lives in Queen's Park, said: "I think Beckham's hair style is cool. I like experimenting with my appearance and thought I'd go for the chop after my brother Matt shaved the sides and it looked a disaster.

"I've had some snide remarks from friends and work colleagues but I'm delighted with the result.

"When Mum first saw it she was horrified but she's got used to it now.

"I haven't had a girlfriend for a few months and I'm hoping it will attract someone as well-off as Victoria Beckham," he joked.

"Beckham has done very well for himself - he has the perfect life and I hope the style will bring me the same good fortune."

Nick, who played right midfield for Parley Sports until suffering a back injury three years ago, spent two hours in the salon having his hair restyled and the top bleached.

A mohican-style cut and colour at Ice Hair Design will set you back £28.95.
