THERE'S going to be sunshine, songs and plenty of showers at The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton tonight as the sparkling new stage production of MGM's classic musical Singin' In The Rain splashes its way into the theatre for two weeks.
Set in the 1920s, just as the first 'talkies' were hitting the movie theatres, Singin' In The Rain celebrates all the style and spectacle of this golden age of moviemaking. Among the succession of unforgettable musical numbers as classics including Good Morning, Make 'Em Laugh, You Are My Lucky Star and Gotta Dance.
And, of course, there will be a stage re-enactment of one of the most memorable scenes in celluloid history - the legendary dance through a downtown street in a stormy shower to Singin' In The Rain.
Winner of The Olivier Award for Most Outstanding Musical Production, this production by West Yorkshire Playhouse has been directed by Jude Kelly.
And patrons sitting in front row seats have been warned to wear wet weather gear, due to some apparently dazzling - and soaking - water effects created by effects supremo Mario Borzo.
