A MOUNTAIN of scrap paper has been turned into school cash after a community recycling initiative.
Parents of pupils at Westhaven County Infants School in Weymouth helped raise funds for the school by collecting old newspapers and cardboard boxes over the year.
Last year £800 was raised in the recycling scheme, which is used to generate money for school trips for the schoolchildren aged four to seven.
Now organisers are hoping to improve on that sum after a team of 20 parents scoured the community collecting from friends and neighbours.
Headteacher Rachel Hiscock said the scheme was a success and had helped promote the benefits of recycling among pupils.
She added: "This takes a lot of planning and I would like to thank all volunteers and the wider community for their support in this scheme."
