GIRL power won the day for Ellingham and Ringwood Under-10s as they beat Peterborough 10-0 to win the Prudential Bowl at Twickenham, writes Phil Chard.
Poppy Cleall ran in the New Forest team's first-half try to give them the lead on the hallowed turf of the English Rugby Football Union's headquarters.
The touchdown had been set up by Poppy's twin sister Bryony Cleall after Ellingham and Ringwood won clean ball from a ruck.
Poppy and Bryony were the only girls to play at Twickenham on Sunday alongside about 400 boys in matches comprising different age groups before England's match against the Barbarians.
Charlie Sarel capped Ellingham and Ringwood's victory with a late second-half runaway try.
Ellingham and Ringwood coach Steve Evans said: "It was a tremendous team performance and all of the squad can be proud of their achievement."
Club captain Dick Birch, one of more than 100 supporters from the Hampshire outfit who travelled to London, added: "The whole club is proud of the under-10 team.
"It was a great thrill to watch an Ellingham and Ringwood side play so well on Twickenham's hallowed turf and they thoroughly deserved to win the trophy."
Wimborne had two teams competing at Twickenham, but unfortunately both ended up tasting defeat. The Leigh Parker's under-12 outfit were narrowly beaten 5-0 by Rosslyn Park who scored a first-half try.
Wimborne hit back hard in a close-fought encounter and were unlucky on several occasions not to level the score.
Ben Barkham and Jack Stone went close to finishing off good moves early in the second period.
But the closest the Dorset team came to levelling was in the last minute when Marcus Coates-Walker crashed through three tackles before being held up by the Rosslyn Park defence two metres from the line.
Wimborne Under-13s went down 29-0 to Welsh outfit Llandaff North.
