DORSET Art Weeks has got off to a flying start with a host of celebrities popping into Sherborne House for its official launch.
The events' patron, Sir Anthony Caro, gave the scheme a resounding vote of confidence as did South West Arts director Nick Capaldi.
Dorset County Council's visual arts officer, Claire Ring, said: "The launch was excellent. Sir Anthony Caro spoke really well about how the scheme is a fantastic idea.
"He is especially pleased that the Art Weeks are non-selective and said that for all we knew, we could unearth the new Jackson Pollock!
"He intends to visit as many venues as possible while he is in the county.
"Hopefully, the Golden Jubilee celebrations will bring more people out too - at Corfe Castle there's a special jubilee piece called Queen of the Arts on view. It's a 160ft chalk figure on the side of East Hill and is well worth a look."
Dorset Art Weeks, which have been running for the past decade, offer locals and visitors the chance to view the work of artists and craftspeople throughout Dorset.
Works of art in every imaginable medium are put on display in galleries, halls, studios and private houses across the county and this year there are 300 venues to visit, offering works by more than 450 artists.
Dorset Art Weeks run until Sunday, June 9, and brochures can be picked up in arts centres and libraries across the county, or call Claire Ring on (01305) 251000.
