SCHOOL children are being urged to belt-up on the way to school in a new poster campaign.
The project started at St Andrews's Primary School in Preston, Weymouth, where Weymouth College students ran a competition to design a poster encouraging seatbelt safety.
Year 3 pupil Sophie Taylor-Griffiths won with the slogan "Be a cool cat, not a dead dog, dummy. Wear your seatbelt."
The posters will be reproduced and put up in all Weymouth and Portland schools.
Second place went to Rebecca Highfield, third was James Skinner and fourth place went to Danielle Luke.
The prizes were given by Weymouth College students, Stephanie Miller, Hollie Hayne, Dan Dukes, Philip Wilmot and Laura Hallett, who led the project.
Dorset County Council's road safety officer Sue Virgin said: "The students took on board the challenge of designing and running an actual campaign involving the parents and children at the school and the results have been very encouraging."
