ONE of the legends of easy listening glides into Bournemouth later this month when Andy Williams brings his velvet tones to the BIC.
Easily the most solid and long-lasting vocalist of his era, Andy Williams' laid-back delivery and expansive voice has charmed audiences for decades. His career started with his first appearance with a brother quartet in the 1930s to the present day (his seventh decade in entertainment) when apart from being an international singing star he is also head of his own dinner theatre in Branson, Missouri.
The voice behind such hits as Can't Get Used To Losing You, Williams enjoyed exceptional popularity in the 1950s and 1960s with a string of albums including Moon River, Days Of Wine and Roses and Love Story as well as a television show.
Despite occasional hits such as Solitaire in the UK, Williams' career gradually wound down during the 1980s and early 1990s. However, the rehabilitation of easy-listening and the new-found fondness for the suave and sophisticated toe-tapping crooners means that Williams found a whole new audience - Music To Watch Girls By and Can't Take My Eyes Off You are virtually anthems now.
Tickets for Andy Williams' concert in Bournemouth on Thursday, June 27 are available from the BIC box office at £27.50 and £24.50 (tel: 01202 456456).
