WESTON ST JOHN 1 PORTLAND UNITED 7 WESTON ST JOHN RES 1 PORTLAND UTD RES 2 THE Blues wound up their pre-season programme on a high note with success all round in their double-header against the Screwfix One outfit in Somerset.
Manager Nick Preston was missing - he took the opportunity to spy on Bournemouth Poppies and Vase opponents Clevedon United at Victoria Park - but the reports that came back from assistant Andy Mason left him well satisfied.
"By all acounts we played extremely well and it's nice to go into our first league game against Cowes next week with the confidencence high after scoring a lot of goals," he commented.
Blues first team scorers were Darren Tizard, Chris Reader, James Reeve, Levi Dailey (2), Dave Whalley and Andy Turrell.
Preston saw Clevedon beat Wessex League Poppies 2-1 and warned his side that the Screwfix men will prove tricky opposition in the
Vase.
"It was absolutely sweltering so you can't read too much into it," he said. "But they looked a decent side and will give us a hard game."
