Dorchester all but secured their Dorset Premier Division future with a superb 67-run victory at Blandford.

Ian Sibley, Quinten Miller and Dave Chubb struck half centuries as the county town posted an excellent 251-3 batting first.

They then restricted their hosts to 189-6 in reply to leave themselves well clear of the relegation zone.

Dorchester skipper Simon Joslin said: "It was our best all round display of the summer and I was delighted with the team's effort. Everybody worked hard in the sweltering heat and the result's gone along way to securing our place in the Premier Division."

Weymouth continue to tug on the shirt tails of leaders Poole Town following their 111-run victory over Wimborne at Redlands.

Stand-in skipper Dave Pearce (67no) topped scored in the Seasiders total of 245-8 with Jim Ryall blasting 55. Michael Pearce them returned figures of 4-6 as the hosts rolled their opponents out for 134.

Weymouth's 25 point haul sees them close the gap at the top of the table with Poole only managing to take 18 points from their home win over Broadstone.

Dave Pearce, who skippered Weymouth in place of the absent Hugh Lawes, explained: "The Redlands wicket wasn't quite the belter we thought it would be after all the sunshine and we needed to work hard for our runs.

"But 245 was always going to be a winning score and our bowling was again as tight and disciplined as it has been all summer.

"We're slowly catching Poole and are now less than a point behind them on average. All we can do is keep taking maximum points and hope they slip up."

In Division One, Portland Red Triangle kept their faint promotion hopes alive with a sound four wicket win over Wayfarers at Reforne.

Dave Blackman was the islanders' century hero in a score of 253-6. Earlier veteran John Dixon collected three wickets as the visitors set a target of 251-7.

At the other end of the table, Beaminster and Weymouth Seconds remain in relegation trouble after both were defeated away from home.

Beaminster (197) went down by 59 runs to Suttoners (248-8) at Dean Park while the Seasiders' second string (159-9) lost by six wickets at Sherborne (160-4).
