BOURNEMOUTH'S new library has been saluted in a top architectural award scheme.
The library, which opened last year at the Triangle, has received a commendation in the 2003 Civic Trust Awards.
Shelagh Levett, head of arts, library and museum services at Bournemouth Borough Council, said: "Bournemouth Library has proved very popular and usage has doubled in the first year of opening. The commendation is a fitting tribute."
The library, built under the government's private finance initiative (PFI), has earned a string of accolades.
David Upton, director of the library's Winchester-based consulting engineer Upton McGougan PLC, said: "I am delighted with this Civic Trust commendation for Bournemouth Library. Upton McGougan plc is committed to providing sustainable solutions for all its projects."
