WEST Dorset under 14 girls were pipped into second place on goal difference at the Dorst Youth Games.
Having won the 2002 competition, this year's slightly different line up were confident they could pull it off again.
They remained unbeaten, but just lost out on top spot in a dramatic finale with 30 seconds left, when North Dorset scored the decisive fourth goal against Purbeck to lift the trophy, presented by England star Sarah Stanley.
The side, containing players from Woodroffe, Sir John Colfox and Dorchester Middle schools competed against a strong field of teams from Purbeck, Weymouth, East Dorset, Poole, Bournemouth and North Dorset in a league format tournament at Bryanston School, Blandford Forum.
