BOURNEMOUTH AC's Charlotte Moore has stressed that missing out on gold at the European Juniors last month had made her "more determined" to make the Great Britain squad for the World Championships.
Despite picking up a silver medal in Tampere, Finland, last month, the 800 metres runner admitted she was gutted at the time and since then has trained hard to make up for that disappointment.
Naturally, she was "thrilled" when she received confirmation of her selection for the Worlds in Paris from August 23 to 31 earlier this week.
Moore, 18, said: "There was a lot of pressure on me at the start of 2003 but when I sat down with my coach Christina Boxer at the start of the season we made the European Championships my main goal.
"My other target was to consistently run under two minutes three seconds, which I have done five times this year so I am happy with that."
In Bangor earlier this month, Moore could only manage fifth, but is adamant that she has learnt from such performances and by trying out new strategies this year is now more experienced and ready to take on the world's best.
Moore added: "Although some of my races may seem erratic it is because my coach and I have experimented with different tactics.
"I have learnt from all the races, including those that have not gone so well. After this last week, I feel my season has now come together at just the right time."
"Training has gone really well recently and my 800m has been good.
"It was just a case of whether the selectors would be kind enough to pick me. To actually be in the squad is amazing and Paris represents a great opportunity."
