IT WAS standing room only on Wednesday night as West Dorset's home-grown superstar Polly Harvey played to a capacity crowd at Bridport Arts Centre.
The singer, who was brought up at Corscombe, went to Beaminster School and was in the Colfox Big Band.
Her loyal local fans snapped up all 300 tickets within two hours of them going on sale on Monday morning at 10am. One foreign holidaymaker was so surprised to find P J Harvey playing in a small Dorset market town that he genuinely thought the group was a tribute band.
It is Polly's third gig at the arts centre.
Said director Chris Huxley: "It's great that she does it."
Her appearance this week was a warm-up gig for a forthcoming tour. She appears at Cornwall's Eden project tonight (Friday).
