"WARNING" screams the publicity for Jethro's latest Stark Raving Bonkers tour "Not for the vicar." (Sept 15)
Whether cringing clerics actually take note isn't entirely clear but suffice to say this is the West Country comic's round about way of letting us know that his show is "a bit rude."
A one-off showbiz phenomenon, this curious comedian has established an act that is as bizarre as it is unique.
With his rambling rustic stories of strange goings on in England's own wild west and his claims to be the world's funniest Cornishman, he has created a character that has among its most fervent fans none other than the heir to the throne.
Whether Prince Charles' fondness for Jethro's act is connected with a loyalty to the Duchy of Cornwall or the comedian's almost obsessive patriotism has never been revealed. Perhaps it is just a question of a meeting of eccentric minds.
Whatever, you can find Jethro in full bucolic swing at the Pavilion Theatre every Monday (except Septemeber 1) until September 15.
Box office on 01202 456456.
