A VINTAGE car will visit Weymouth on carnival day as part of a whistle-stop tour of Britain.

The 1923 Hubmobile, with a driver and navigator from Cape Cornwall's Coast-watch Station, is to stop at the resort during the 3,000-mile tour and will parade along the seafront with around 10 other vintage vehicles.

The aim of the tour is to raise awareness of the charity National Coastwatch.

Chairman of classic vehicle club Transport of Yesteryear Dorset, Carle Grahame, said: "Our members will meet the Hubmobile at around 11am at the Chesil Beach car park on Portland Beach Road and escort it to the Coastwatch station at Portland Bill.

"We will then escort the car into Weymouth at around 12.30pm when the Hubmobile and around 10 other vintage vehicles will parade from the Jubilee Clock to the Pavilion and back.

"We hope to stop at some point along the way to show all the cars before escorting the Hubmobile to Preston where we will leave it to carry on its journey to Coastwatch stations in Swanage."

Manager of Portland's Coastwatch station Peter Nevill said the purpose of the trip was to raise awareness and donations for National Coastwatch stations.

The stations are manned by volunteers around the country to keep a watch on dangerous coastlines.

Transport of Yesteryear will also be holding a static display of members' classic and vintage vehicles from the 1920s to 1970s on Monday on Weymouth seafront opposite Marks and Spencer from 6.30pm.
