STEAM engines bright and beautiful, great and small, along with vintage cars and military vehicles lined the field at the fifth annual Portland Steam and Vintage Show.
These, along with helicopter flights, arena events, static displays, demonstrations and charity stalls attracted hundreds of people to Southwell Business Park over the weekend.
In all, approximately 250 exhibitors were drawn to the event to provide two days of family fun, interest and entertainment.
Among the four large steam engines on show was the gleaming Hayden Princess, making its appearance by courtesy of Dorchester Museum, and also in the steam section was the Locomobile, a steam car from 1901.
Sixty-two smaller stationary engines had steam enthusiasts listening eagerly to owners as they explained the working parts.
Children had great fun being introduced to steam, with rides on the trailer pulled by the Lady Alison, a miniature steam engine. There were also 57 veteran and classic cars that aroused admiration and envy, 17 military vehicles which brought back memories for many people, and 13 commercial vehicles.
The star among the 28 motor bikes on display was the Golden Wings Trike, originally from the USA, which has been 'triked' by its owner.
Youngsters had rides in a 30year-old fire engine formerly used by Wiltshire Fire Brigade.
The Viking Re-enactment Society from Southampton took onlookers back to Saxon times when Portlanders tried to repel Viking raiders who had made their first ever landing on English soil at Church Ope Cove - on this occasion they did not do too well!
In contrast, youngsters from the Popstep Academy in Weymouth gave a colourful and dazzling dancing display.
Other events included demonstrations by Portland St John Ambulance who are the beneficiaries of this year's event, a junior motor cycle football team from Southampton, Weymouth Taekwondo, Portland Dog Training Club and the Weymouth Accordion Band.
The steam, vintage and military vehicles paraded at intervals in the arena.
Chief organiser Mike Tanner said: "I am grateful to the hard working committee team and our supporters' group whose help is vital in putting on this family fun weekend."
He expressed his thanks to the main sponsors, Southwell Business Park, and to all sponsors.
