RICHARD Pullen shot a remarkable six-under-par 28 on the back nine at Torquay to win the club's annual Pro-am with a round of four-under-par 65.
The Ashley Wood touring pro enjoyed his best day on the West Region as he also led home the team that finished third to take home more than £700 from his day beside the Devon seaside.
Pullen, aged 26 from Blandford, who is one of the teaching professionals in Canford Magna's weekend juniors programme, did not give an indication of what was to follow when he completed the first nine in two-over-par 37.
But he produced four birdies, four pars and an eagle on the par-five 12th to storm home and relegate in-form Yeovil assistant Marcus Higley to second place, one stroke behind.
"I was three over after three and my team partners were giving me the kind of looks you dread," he said.
"I got it going after that. Although I have had one or two five-under rounds in he past, I rate this my best ever.
"I've had a few high placings and won assistants events but this was my first Pro-am victory."
Early starter Higley seemed poised for another individual and team double as he sat in the clubhouse after shooting 66 and helping the Torbay Golf Centre team into the lead at 16-under-par 122.
He had previously won at Maesteg and Salisbury and was seeking a hat-trick. But he still enjoyed another £600-plus pay-day.
Pullen elected to sell shares in himself this year to help finance some of the £11,000 he estimated it would cost him to play a full programme.
He has 150 shareholders to paid £50 a share with the promise of a dividend of 50per cent of what he made this year.
Earlier in the week he finished second to David Hutton (High Post) in the final Titleist-Footjoy Assistants League at The Wiltshire, carding one-under-par 71.
Steve Pockneall (Dudsbury) and Adam Sawyer (Canford Magna) shot 77, but Sawyer won the betterball with 64,thanks to an outstanding contribution by Ben Churchill (Knighton Heath, off 2).
Michael Watson (Weymouth) was third at Torquay on 67 (£374) while Lee Thompson (Dudsbury) and Graham Howell (Ferndown Forest) were a further shot back (£178).
Thompson shot four-under 67 to share fourth spot at Salisbury and pick up £330. Paul Jones (Canford Magna) and Kevin Spurgeon (Dudsbury) shot 68 (£124).
