JAMES Kirtley's sensational Test debut against South Africa sparked special interest at Dorchester where his father Bob is a vice-president of the town's cricket club.
The Sussex seamer grabbed the headlines with second innings figures of 6-34 as England clinched a dramatic final day, 70-run victory at Trent Bridge.
Mr Kirtley senior lived in Dorchester's Came View Estate until a few months ago when he moved to France.
Dorchester skipper Tony Foot recalled: "He's a real cricket fan and soon started watching the club's games at the Rec. After joining our committee he arranged for James to pick the winning ticket in our club's fund-raising draw and I remember meeting him at the ground.
"I recall being surprised at how short James was for a fast bowler, but that didn't seem to be a handicap at Trent Bridge yesterday and I'm sure Bob is a very proud man."
