MAGPIES bounced back from their disappointing opening day draw with a workmanlike performance that was just enough to see off a BAT side that will certainly win more games than they lose this season.
Paul Roast opened the scoring with a superb 12-yard header from a Mark Smith free-kick in the 15th minute.
Andy Jones added a second on 32 after some neat work from the stylish Guy Dipper.
BAT did manage to get one back with 20 minutes remaining, but the Magpies managed to hold on to take all three points, and set themselves up nicely for Saturday's tough trip to Moneyfields, followed by the visit of local rivals Bournemouth Poppies next Monday evening.
Magpies: Kearn, Parkin, Jones, Powell, Roast, Barham (Sturgess 80), Oldbury (Sc Cannie 88), Barnes, St Cannie, Dipper, Unused sub: Phillipson-Masters.
