HELENA Bonham Carter and Olivia Williams star as two sisters (Dinah and Madeleine) in 1930s London.

Madeleine appears to be happily married to Rickie (Paul Bettany) and enjoy a well-heeled, well-mannered life with their loving son.

Dinah couldn't be more different to her sister. Bohemian and free-spirited, she returns to London for their father's funeral and finds herself drawn to Rickie. The attraction is mutual and as Madeleine tries to marry her sister off to an eminently eligible suitor, Dinah and Rickie begin an affair that will have repercussions throughout their lives.

Bonham Carter laces her character with a child-like quality that accentuates her freedom of mind, while Williams' guarded emotional portrayal of Madeleine hints that she may actually envy her wild-child sister; while Bettany shines as the ordered English gentleman who suddenly finds himself a bundle of raw emotions.
