HUGH Lawes is refusing to concede the Dorset Premier Division title until the final ball of the season is bowled.

The Weymouth skipper was left bitterly disappointed by his side's defeat at Colehill last week, which all but

handed the championship on a plate to leaders Poole Town.

However, despite that massive set back at Wimborne Road, the Seasiders' chief reckons there could still be a few twists and turns left in the competition which stages its penultimate round of games tomorrow.

He said: "Obviously it's out of our hands now which is very frustrating. But no way have we given up hope of winning the title and we'll keep on battling away until the final ball is bowled.

"Hopefully Poole will become a bit complacent now and ease up a touch in their last two games. They've got two very tough ones at home to Wimborne tomorrow and at Colehill the week after and so their work is far from done.

"Both their remaining opponents are quality sides and more than capable of an upset. All we can do is make sure we win our remaining fixtures and hope someone else does us a favour."

If the second place Seasiders are to come with a late title challenge they'll need to counter the threat of the league's most explosive batsman, West Indian star Carl Brissett.

He and his Parley team mates come to Redlands tomorrow (start 1pm) for what promises to be a cracking afternoon's cricket.

"Parley are one really class team in the division," admitted Lawes, "and everyone knows all about the talents of Carl. But there's more to them than just one player. They have strength in depth throughout their side and they'll be desperate to beat us at Redlands.

"What I do like about Parley is the fact that they play positive, attacking cricket and always go for the win. That's the way we also like to play and no quarter will be asked for or given tomorrow.

"They know how important a win is for us and they'll be coming to throw a spanner in the works. If we don't get a result then the championship's gone - that's how big the game is for us."

Despite last weekend's five-wicket reverse, Lawes and his fellow selectors have resisted the temptation to make changes to their line-up.

"Everyone's fit and raring to go," the captain added, "and there was certainly no reason to make changes. The boys were very down immediately after the Colehill game but they're determined to bounce back in style tomorrow."
