FITNESS instructor Steve Tasker turned up to watch Dorchester United's debut in the Dorset Premier League against Westlands Sports at Sandringham Sports Centre last week - tomorrow he finds himself lining up in the team to host Blandford United.
Manager Kevin Hillier got chatting to the 29-year-old county town newcomer during the game and invited him along to United's training sessions after hearing he had played for Sussex side Horsham in the Ryman League Division One.
"I hadn't met him until last week when he was standing near the dug-out and we got chatting," said Hillier. "He's trained twice with us this week and I've been very impressed. He's an experienced wide right player
who can operate either as a wing-back or in midfield and after watching him in action I decided he just had to go straight into the team."
United, who were desperately unlucky to go down to a late winner against Westlands, have their top two goalkeepers available tomorrow after giving the jersey to third team stopper Kevin Smith last week.
Former Terra Dan Claxton has completed his recovery from the hand injury he suffered earlier in the summer and Mark Singleton is also available after attending a wedding.
"There isn't much between them and I haven't decided yet who will get the first team job tomorrow and who will be in the reserves," said Hillier.
United: Claxton/Singleton, Drake, Voss, Kemp, Taylor, Cleal, Beale, Churchill, Tasker, M Hillier, Yates, Leneghan, J Hillier, Kelly.
