CHARLOTTE Moore's trainer Christina Boxer has heaped praise on the Bournemouth AC runner ahead of one of the biggest races of her life at 4.25pm today, when the 20-year-old goes in heat one of the Women's 800 metres at the World Championships in Paris.
Boxer beamed: "I have never met such a conscientious person as Charlotte. Her mental preparation has been superb. She diligently works on all the unglamorous aspects of training every day in order to succeed and runs the winter cross-country events, despite enjoying them less, knowing they are necessary for her to be fit and ready for summer."
Expectation has been high on Charlotte this season for her to repeat her 2002 Commonweath Games performance. Furthermore she has had to deal with the pressure of A-levels yet has performed consistently well on the track and received excellent exam results.
Boxer reflected: "There has been no special reason for Charlotte's ability to cope with the pressure of running all over Europe while achieving academic success. It's just Charlotte Moore as a person. She has the physical talent and her attitude is amazing.
"Preparations for the Worlds have gone perfectly.
"Charlotte has had a very consistent year in training and will be totally fresh for Saturday. There are no injury problems whatsoever and my role is 99-per-cent done now."
She added: "Paris will be a tough and challenging situation for her as everyone there will be of a high standard, but she copes well with everything thrown at her. Charlotte has earned her place in the team and has nothing to lose." Boxer also revealed that whatever happens in the Stade de France today, long-term development was more important.
"Charlotte and I have sat down and devised a ten-year-plan, Paris represents just one part of it. We are still building for what we hope will be a very long and successful career.
"Progression is not linear in athletics, but involves many ups and downs - especially in middle distance running as it is such a tactical discipline. But Charlotte is very good at reacting to opponents and is constantly learning the event. She possesses a unique understanding of the sport and is naturally great at the mental aspects of competition - the bits you can't teach.
"She has the winning combination of physical ability and racing intellect and is thus a great all-round athlete."
